How to GeoWhisper — Setup Guide

GeoWhisper works differently from other messaging apps. It runs quietly in the background, waiting for the right moment. A few simple settings make all the difference between a message that delivers perfectly and one that doesn't.

Set Location Access to "Always"

This is the most important setting. GeoWhisper needs to know when you arrive at a location — even when the app is in the background or your screen is off. Without "Always," messages won't deliver.

Settings → GeoWhisper → Location → Always

⚠️ "While Using" is not enough. You must select Always for GeoWhisper to work correctly.

Enable Notifications

Allow notifications so you're alerted the moment a GeoWhisper delivers. Without this you won't know when a message arrives — you'd have to open the app manually to check.

Settings → GeoWhisper → Notifications → Allow

Turn On Background App Refresh

This allows GeoWhisper to stay active in the background and check your location when needed. If this is off, the app may miss your arrival at a pinned location.

Settings → General → Background App Refresh → GeoWhisper → On

Don't Force Close the App

Leave GeoWhisper running in the background. If you swipe it away in the app switcher, it can no longer monitor your location and messages won't deliver until you reopen it.

⚠️ Swiping GeoWhisper away in the app switcher stops message delivery. Just leave it running in the background like you would with Maps or Spotify.

Write your message

Tap Whisper, GeoTask, or Group and compose your message. Add a photo if you want.

Drop a pin

Choose the location where your message will deliver. Search for an address, drop a pin on the map, or pick from your saved places. Set the radius — how close they need to get before it triggers.

Choose your recipient and send

Select who receives the message and tap send. Your message is now waiting patiently at that location.

They arrive — it delivers

When the recipient physically enters the radius around your pin, their phone wakes up with your message. Not before. Not after. Exactly when it matters.

You'll know when it lands

You get notified when your message delivers and when they read it. Watch it move from Waiting → Delivered → Read.

Someone isn't showing up in my contacts list.

They need to be a registered GeoWhisper user and their phone number needs to match what's saved in your contacts. Make sure you have their current mobile number saved correctly. If you have multiple numbers saved for them, keep only the correct one.

Will this drain my battery?

No. GeoWhisper uses iOS region monitoring, the same low-power system used by Find My and location-based reminders. It doesn't continuously run the GPS — it simply listens for when you enter a specific area. Most users won't notice any battery impact.

What's the difference between a GeoWhisper, GeoTask, and Group Whisper?

A GeoWhisper is a personal message that delivers when someone arrives at a location. A GeoTask is a location-triggered to-do or reminder. A Group Whisper sends to multiple people — the thread builds as each person physically arrives, so everyone experiences the moment together.
